Cultural & Identity Therapy

Navigating identity, culture, and belonging can be its own kind of weight — one that's often misunderstood by therapists who haven't lived it. Your background isn't something to set aside in therapy; it's part of the full picture we work with together.

What This Can Look Like

Clients come to me for support with:

  • Navigating identity as a person of color, immigrant, or member of a marginalized community

  • The exhaustion of code-switching or being "the only one" in a room

  • Cultural or religious expectations from family or community

  • First-generation experiences — being the bridge between family expectations and your own path

  • Adjusting to a new culture, country, or community

  • Self-esteem shaped by cultural, racial, or family expectations

  • Feeling like you have to choose between honoring where you come from and building the life you want

How We Work Through It Together

Therapy here starts with being genuinely seen — your culture, your community, and your identity aren't side notes, they're central to understanding you. I work from a liberation psychology lens, meaning we look at your experience within its fuller social and cultural context, not just as an individual problem to fix in isolation. I work with clients from a wide range of racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, including African, African American, Arab, Hispanic/Latino, Asian, Indigenous, and multicultural communities, among others. In our work together, we may draw on:

  • Culturally responsive care — therapy that reflects your lived experience, not a generic framework

  • ACT and mindfulness — making room for competing values and expectations without losing yourself in the process

  • CBT — working through the specific thought patterns that cultural pressure or self-esteem struggles can create

  • Mind-body somatic practices — nervous system-informed work, since cultural stress often lives in the body as much as the mind

A Space Without Judgment

You don't have to explain or justify your background here — it's simply part of who you are, and it's welcome in this space exactly as it is.
